In a heartfelt statement shared on Instagram, Malaika and her family expressed their deep grief:
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy during this difficult time."
The statement was released on behalf of Malaika, her mother Joyce Polycarp, son Arhaan Khan, sister Amrita Arora, and other family members, including Amrita’s husband Shakeel Ladak and their children.
Details of the Incident
Reports suggest that Anil Mehta, aged 65, had called both his daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, before the incident, telling them, "I'm tired." Mehta's wife, Joyce Polycarp, was at home when the tragedy occurred. She became concerned after finding his slippers in the living room and later saw a commotion from the balcony, where a security guard was calling for help.
A post-mortem is being conducted at Bhabha Hospital, and police have confirmed the death as a suicide.
